This can sometimes seem overwhelming because it involves the relationship of phenomena that seem totally unrelated. That is a pervasive malaise, a maladjustment in our relationships with each other and with the rest of nature. We can trace out the particular manifestations of this. It"s the using up of non- renewable sources, the using up of renewable sources as well by harvesting them faster than they can reconstitute themselves. The interesting thing here is that even though this might seem irrational, it makes rational sense within the cost accounting of capitalism. That depends on the relationship between the rate of reproduction of the resource and the interest rate in the economy. But on a world scale, human intellectual capacity is constantly. Agriculture is not in the business of producing food but of producing marketable commodities which sometimes feed people and sometimes go as animal feed.
