The osi security architecture is fully applicable to the internet. Some of the pervasive security mechanisms can be regarded as aspects of security management. Illustration of relationship of security services and mechanisms (ref. Multi-layer security: security layers are defined according to the osi reference model network, transport, application, what can be mapped into e. g. ne/node, router/network, application. , i. e. data layer: security services and security mechanisms are defined in such a way that they can be applied to network/security layers independently ( orthogonally ). This means e. g. that many (the same) security services are can be used at different networking layers. Security threats model is a part of any security architecture. To develop right security measures, engineers need to understand what security threats exist in the specific operational environment and against what security attacks the future application must be protected.
