This is something that a normal person would not do but under the circumstances she panicked and was not thinking clearly. Her car was on fire and she panicked. The reasonable person plays a big role in negligence law setting the standard for our behaviour. Whether or not a defendant is liable depends in part on whether or not the defendant acted like this reasonable person. The reasonable person was once called the reasonable man . Professionals must act as a reasonable professional would under similar circumstances. Eg. the reasonable doctor or the reasonable lawyer. Basically be compared to someone who is in the same profession. Standard is higher than a reasonable person in general. No matter your experience, you are still compared to a reasonable professional.
