Nse 13a- assessment of healthy individual: week 12 objectives. Class and lab objectives: self-review anatomy and physiology including the central nervous system, reflex arc, cranial and spinal nerves, distinguish between techniques used to assess impulses carried in the spinothalamic tract and the posterior/dorsal columns. Pain is tested by the patient"s ability to perceive a pinprick. Ask the patient to say sharp or dull depending on the sensation felt. Dull edge-used as a general test of the patient"s responses. Only test temperature sensations when pain sensations are abnormal. Fill two test tubes, one with hot water, one with cold water. Apply the bottom ends to the patient"s skin in a random order. Stretch the cotton ball to lengthen it and brush it over the skin in a random order of sites and at irregular intervals. Apply a wisp of cotton to the skin. Ask patient to say yes or no where the sensation is felt.
