Through the years it has evolved and been now there is the emphasis on breast is best but the formula composition is nearly identical and highly regulated by the government. There is a code of marketing when it comes to formula because breastfeeding is stil seen as supierior. However, healthcare professionals provide information about the importance of breastfeeding, the cost of formula feeding, the difficulty of reversing the decision both physically since it is a supply and demand concept as well as metally. They also need to consuel people who have made the informed choice not to breastfeed on the options they have as substitues pasteurized breastmilk from screened donors or commercial formulas are the recommended alternatives. Iron- fortified formula should be used until 9-12 months.
