Leadership: a process that involves influencing the thinking and actions of others with respect to achieving a goal, without needing formal authority of a management position (kelly & quesnelle, Strong emotional intelligence (self awareness and self-regulation) Behavioural: autocratic (power and control, used for specific task related jobs) , democratic (sharing responsibility for leadership), laissez-faire ( passive and permissive, many can maybe make their own decisions ) Contingency: other factors in the environment influences leadership style , effectiveness is based on something other than leader"s behaviour, where roles are delegated or managers are participatory (e. g. nursing, contains many variables that are beyond our control) Contemporary: leadership necessary to develop learning organizations and lead the process of transforming change (charismatic - fun, smart, attractive leader, transformational - ever improving process such as health care, servant - does the work of those below them) Transformational leadership in nursing builds relationships and trust. Creates empowerment and a culture of learning.
