Assess drainage on dressing: assess insertion site, suture condition, and placement of chest tube, listen if air leaks are present, palpate for subcutaneous emphysema. Mark if present: removes glove, sterilize hands, and apply new gloves. Prepare for dressing change: open sterile dressing tray. Add additional supplies if required: clean insertion site using a circular motion from least to most contaminated (nearest the tube to furthest).
