Document Summary

Explain how the ideal of childhood evolved into the modern concept we understand today. In the past, there was never a great focus on childhood. The concept of childhood was simply not recognized the way it is recognized in todays society. In earlier times, children were forced to start work at a very young age and having access to education wasn"t seen as a main priority for parents. Eventually, new systems were put in place by both the government and the church. This allowed for a new look and perspective on the idea of childhood. Society started to view childhood as a time of innocence. Education was greatly emphasized as an important aspect of the growing child. The main priority was providing for the children"s needs, making sure that they are healthy and being treated properly. The streets went from being filled with begging children, to full of families.
