Document Summary

Socializing (sociology) is the way we are brought into this world and what we are taught. Everything we know about ourselves is what we were taught and how we were raised. Norms: expectations of how things are going to go. Sociologists identify the general social patterns in the behaviour of particular individuals. Because it isn"t possible to look at each person in a given age range, or in a given country, sociologists focus on a smaller (sampler) group and base their research off of that group. Giving up the idea that human behaviour is simply a matter of what people decide to do, and understanding that society shapes our lives. Simply because 2 people attend the same party, doesn"t mean they will have the same experience. Things such as gender, race, age or financial status can affect how social interactions affect us. The power of society can change/shape even our most private choices.
