There are things that are deviant but not harmful i. e. reaction: deviance generates negative social reaction. Many: harm: deviant behaviour is harmful in a physical or psychological way. This is: rarity: deviant behaviour is rare. Objective: deviance lies in the characteristic/qualities of a person or act. It consists of 4 characteristics or qualities: common sense. soldier in war, harmful but not deviant. There are rare things that are not deviant i. e. winning the lottery. There are also many common deviant things i. e. tax fraud. deviant. individuals have their own view points as to what is/isn"t acceptable: norms: someone stepping outside of the norms is called deviant. Assumption is you can observe and document when these changes happen and when there is a violation. Norms change from one situation to the next. Deviance violated social norms. and that they embrace them to a specific degree.
