BIOL 140 Study Guide - Quiz Guide: Porcellio Scaber, Petri Dish, Lux
Document Summary
We assessed the effect of light on the rate of motion of a porcellio scaber through one minute trials in three different treatments. Randomly, we placed organisms in a petri dish where we collected qualitative and quantitative data through observations. Then, we put the organism in a plastic trough filled with 2 cm of dry, sieved soil, letting them settle in the new environment for two minutes. We tested the rate of motion of p. scaber in three different light intensity treatments: dark, room, and bright by laying plexiglass on top of the trough and drawing the path the organism takes for one minute (figure 1). Figure 1: equipment setup for measuring distance travelled by porcellio scaber in one minute for trial 1. We created these different intensities by putting the arena in a cupboard for the dark treatment, on the table for room, and under 4 lamps of 13w for bright.
