Comparative animal physiology life in arid environments. Rainfall data from a national park in the southern region of the atacama desert. Some weather stations in the desert have never recorded rainfall. What do we mean when we talk about an arid environment: picture is atacama desert, chile, the major feature of this environment is that it"s very dry. There is extremely low rainfall and low humidity in the arid environments. This is the predominant challenge that is facing these animals that live in the arid environment. Just to show arid this dessert environment is are measurements of annual precipitation from a national park in the southern end of the desert it is not one of the driest places in the desert. It"s a place where they had weather stations set up for a long time. You do notice some variability, some years get more rain than others.
