Document Summary

Morality understood in 2 different senses: descriptively and normatively: descriptive (broad, including any kind of morality) ethics vs normative ethics a matter of how we actually ought to act. Features of normative ethics: focusing on what we should/ought to do. Core features of normative ethics: moral/ethical demands are authoritatively binding, moral requirements are objective, normative requirements = universal. Don"t change across different people or regions or places: features of normative ethics. Normative claims are supposed to be objective, universal and binding. Like etiquette, morality or normative ethical claims are supposed to be binding. You should do this bc its in your self-interest: objective, universal, binding. Universal, doesn"t just apply to a specific region, anyone can use it. Objective not based on what you just happen to believe; descriptively, so and so might have a particular belief. Cr challenges that there are even such normative ethics claims.
