Observational study results: high gi diet = 60% increased risk in developing type 2 diabetes, high cereal fiber diet = 36% reduced risk in developing type 2 diabetes. Biggest sources of sugar = soft drinks, snacks, cookies = well hidden -> hard to cut down as sugars are differentiated as added/refined or natural are hard too spot. Reduces saturated fats by using lean cuts of beef, poultry, or turkey. Lean ground meat = <17% weigh by fat. Extra lean ground meat = <10% fat by weight. Don"t always avoid saturated fat beef -> combine with low fat + low saturated fat foods such as vegetables. Manufactures are required to list priority food allergens if the food contains them.
