Document Summary

Humans are a geological force, this is called anthropocene relating to or denoting the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. Rachel carson late in the 1950s turned her attention to conservation, especially some environmental problems that she believed were caused by synthetic pesticides. The result was the book silent spring (1962), which brought environmental concerns to an unprecedented share of the american people. In jeopardy is climate stability, resilience/productivity of natural systems, beauty, and biological diversity. Education today isn"t sufficient to improve earth"s condition because it emphasizes theories instead of values, concepts rather than humans, answers rather than questions, etc. Leopold: we are only a cog in an ecological mechanism and if we don"t work with it it"ll grind us to dust. Desertification is happening (global wind patterns, warm air is further north and south)
