Week 8 reading - healthy aging & dementia (nun study) Each sister agreed to brain donation at death. Study composed of a range of health states (some sharp some cant utter a word) Sister agnes had mixed dementia (alzheimer"s disease and stroke: she left school after grade 8 to care for her mother, she became cognitively and physically disabled at the time of the study. Sister marcella w/ only a hs diploma had exceptional performance at age 100: she had a clean large brain, her brain weighed more than sister agnes. Sister bernadette had a masters degree and taught in schools yet she still had a large spread of alzheimers (scale of 6 ranking) More braak and braak staging of alzhiemers (scale 1 - 6) = more ppl w/ memory impairment.
