Architecture evolved in two ways; materials used, the ground plan, elevation and decoration. Captial: volute, and upside down scroll with a thin, square abacus above. Frieze is plain, perhaps a row of dentils like teeth projections. Rectangular in shape, temples orientated east to west, east entrance, ground irregularities masked by a levelling course(euthnia) - 3 steps on top of this the first on called a styobate (upper surface of this marked floor level of temple) Temple had cult rooms allinged on the main axis of the temple, surrounded by a colonnade. 3 rooms; entrance porch (pronaos), then naos or cella, large room that housed the diety (opisthodomus) 6 coloumns on short sides, 13 on the long. Capital: echius; round flat mushroom cap and the square abacus above. Frieze; triglyphs (vertically grooved pieces that project from the surface) alternate with metopes (plain spaces) Problem with corner: how should the corner triglyphs allign with the coloumn below.
