Ignatieff outlines of whether risk free warfare is possible and what are the consequences of this form of war. Ironically, the novel closes with the advent of peace brought about by the pacifist movement that necessitates that all give up their private identities in the collective process of connection and empathy that jacking provides. Yet, the novel seems to end anti-climactically with the question of whether the loss of one"s agency and individuality is worth the price for collective peace: contemporary science fiction.
