Ontario ( beauiful water ) was the name given to the area. Combined together, the 5 great lakes make up the largest body of fresh water in the world. Lake superior i largest and erie the smallest. Welland canal opened in 1830 to allow ships to bypass niagara falls. Lake efect snow-from nw (london, kitchener, windsor, to) 40% of londons snow is due to lake huron.
