Ex: cohort, case control: analytical cohort studies: A group of individuals are identified and watched to see what events befall them based on the topic of choice, disease rates expressed in person years . Ex: what happens to smokers? (lung cancer, compare smokers and non-smokers) Participants: 17,000 male harvard alumni aged 35-74. Baseline: participants completed questions about their daily physical activities. Questions about exercise activities lead to categorizing the participants into 6 levels of physical activity energy expenditure of kcal/week. Follow up assessment of 6-10 years later.
