Kin 3480 movement neuroscience final exam. Specificity of practice & how it can access attention & memory. Attention = focalization & limitation of information processing resources. Students got an electrical shock when presented with some words. Asked them to come back 6 mo. later, all they had to do was view a list of words. He measured the galvanic skin response when they read the words. Gsr increases with anxiety/fear, an autonomic response to a potential threatening stimulus: not consciously able to control the gsr, its autonomic. The participants had an increased gsr when the words paired with the electrical shock appeared: large amplitude increase, unconsciously preparing for the shock, didn"t remember what the list of words were. Attention & consciousness don"t go hand in hand. There"s a limited processing response & limited capacity/supply. Can do as many tasks as long as they don"t go over the fixed pool for attention.
