A simple fixed lens that begins to gather light and concentrate i so that it will eventually form a sharp image on the rear interior surface of the eye. Formation of a sharper image at the back of the eye. Increase overall sensitivity by increasing the amount of light entering the eye, focus better. Emotional and attentional levels can also vary the size of pupils. Accommodation: the process by which lens change their shape to focus. Determine the amount by which light entering the lens is bent, therefore shape is critical to bringing light into focus. Contraction of the ciliary muscles, from which the lens is suspended, removes some of the tension from the lens and it takes on a more spherical shape. When it is rounder, near objects are in focus. The effect of lens shape on point of focus is shown:
