Document Summary

Vibration of an object, will change compression of particles in the air around it. Occurs by applying force to an object. Psychical properties of creating sound waves (inertia- object will stay at rest), tuning fork will move in the opposite way (overshoot its original shape- now opened up that air space and more room for the particles (rarefaction) Referred to as amplitude- height of the wave, how much difference when you compress and rarify the air. Amplitude- perceptually as loudness (how much you are causing compression and rarefaction to occur- will change how loud the sound is perceived)- greater height of wave- louder the sound. Frequency- of the wave form, fewer wave forms over time (lower the pitch we perceive), lower and fewer cycles (fewer hertz), more wave forms over time (higher the pitch) Complex sounds- nice repeating pattern that is in the sinusoidal function of cells, wave form itself (points which repeat themselves) resemble that of the lowest frequency.
