Outline due jan 25th, and actual project due april 8th (1500 words: intro and methods). Presentation (9 min + 1 min questions) either march 28th or april 4th. Psychological sciences good resource: papers are <2500 words. Proposal due march 7th (1pg summary, ethics), oral presentation april 1st (15 min + 5 min questions). Feb 1 (exam 1: 25%), march 14th (25%) 40mc + 1 take-home essay (1st: research paper critique comes out 5 days before; 2nd: pick a paper and write it into a 500-word newspaper story). Essay component: intro very well argued, made sense, but methods did not operationalize it in a way that makes sense, and here"s why. Scientific study: control over variables; running an experiment; establishing cause and effect (learned through experience). Experimentation: systematically varying aspects of the phenomenon of interest to determine how changes to these features determine outcome. Known as the gold standard (quality control) in social psychology.
