Document Summary

Learning- a relatively permanent change in behaviour potential that occurs due to practice and experience: learning occurs when practice or experience leads to a relatively permanent change in behaviour potential (two learning theories) To be nice); (you gave a great service, your manager praised you, you continued to give a great service) Positive reinforcer- introducing it makes behaviour continue. Negative reinforcer- if it causes a behaviour to continue when it is taken away. Extinction happens if behaviour stopped because a reinforcer was terminated/taken away or a behaviour did not continue because there was no reinforcer. Punishment- introducing it causes a behaviour to stop. Punishment- the application of an aversive stimulus following some behaviour designed to decrease the probability of that behaviour: using reinforcements effectively. Punishment can be effective if truly aversive and delivered immediately, but can elicit strong negative emotional reactions. Since punishment only tells employees what not to do, make sure to also tell them what they should do.
