Periodization is the foundation of an athletes training plan. Periodization is a method which training is divided in to smaller easy-to-manage segments referred to as phases of training. Periodization makes training easier to plan and manage the training program and ensures that peak performance occurs at the main competition. Periodization structures the training phases to target biomotor abilities which allows the athlete to develop the highest levels of speed, strength, power, agility, and endurance possible. Three phases of annual training; preparatory, competitive, and transition. Preparatory and competitive phases are divided into two subphases. Preparatory is divided into; general and speci c. The speci c phase is used to develop characteristics need for a sport by using sport-speci c modalities. Competitive phase is subdivided into precompeitive and competitive. Each phase of annual plan contains macrocycles and macrocycles. The time in each phase depends on the ability to increase the athletes prepardness.
