In this class the focus will be on spending and costs: national health expenditure accounts- official account of healthcare spending in. In 2015 it was about 10% out of pocket: big healthcare insurers: medicaid and medicare, pattern shows that more money is spent in the months and years preceding a person"s death. If they want a more expensive or newer treatment, we respect their wishes. Who: some say consumers are ill-informed and sometimes are educated enough to make big decisions on spending in terms of their healthcare, certificate of need. In other industries we want to encourage competition to reduce prices, in healthcare they want to limit the supply of beds, services, spaces, facilities. In order to open up a new healthcare facility or hospital, there has to be proof of a need: this thought was created in 1970s/1980s, limits supply and diminishes competition. We could reduce spending on healthcare without harming health.
