The largest of the pyramids in the middle, was built by and for the fourth dynasty pharaoh, cheops c. 2580-60 b. c. e. Pyramids such as these served, among other things, to help reinforce the belief that the pharaohs were the divine sons of the god re. This in turn reinforced the absolute political power and authority of these ancient egyptian kings.
