For an idea to be a well-accepted theory it has to be supported by a lot of evidence. Explanaion for a natural phenomenon that is well supported by data and incorporates relevant laws. Descent with modiicaion- characterisics of species can be modiied from generaion to generaion. Certain characterisics increased itness (ability to produce ofspring) Leads to evoluion of populaions (group of individuals of same species living in same area at same ime) The cell theory and theory of evoluion by natural selecion imply: all species come from pre-exising species, all species, past and present, trace their ancestry back to a common ancestor.
