Document Summary

Exam two objectives (from the notes & outside reading) Programmed decisions are repetitive and routine and you know what to do for that scenario, used mostly by 1st line. Decisions making under conditions of certainty means you know every outcome. Uncertainty (no probabilities) is the most difficult. Programmed decisions can be certainty or risk. Every programmed decision was at one point a non-programmed decision: what does the traditional economic model assume about decision-makers? (2 assumptions) Decisions are made under bounded rationality and satisficing, not maximizing. Bounded rationality means you try to be rational but you don"t know everything. 4 rules of brainstorming: criticism is prohibited, freewheeling is desired, crazier the better, quantity is wanted, combine and improve on ideas. Inhibitors cannot be totally eliminated in brainstorming sessions, especially when first expressed. A facilitator in synectics job is to help generate solutions. Structure the problem and help lead discussion away from traditional way of thinking to come up with solution.
