A good story well told - 6 steps. 1 - the story is about somebody with whom we have some empathy. 2 - this person has to want something very badly. 4 - this someone must change and confront their weakness as a result of trying to attain something. 5 - the story has to be told for maximum emotional impact and audience participation. 6 - the story must come to a satisfactory ending (doesn"t mean a happy ending) The essentials: character with weakness/need (empathetic bond, early inciting incident (disruptive event, creates a strong/desperate desire, he/she must overcome obstacles to attain desire. Consists of all the narrative events that are presented on screen. Consists of all the events that are implicit or that we infer to have happened but are not explicitly presented. Structure for presenting everything we see and hear in a film.
