Symbolic interactionism- emphasizes the role of symbols and language as core elements of all human interaction (american flag) Social research- objective gathering of data, use it to create the knowledge, expose myths, etc: research methods, quantitative research- uses numerical data (surveys, qualitative research- non-numerical data (interviews, photos) Scientific method- procedure to acquire knowledge, emphasizes collecting data through experiments: research process: Interview- direct, face to face contact with respondents. Use both close ended (yes or no) and open ended questions. Advantages- speak in own words, more in depth analysis. Surveys- based on questionnaires from a sample of respondents.
