THTR 1020 : Anthropology Final
Document Summary
Part 1: reflexivity- a relationship where cause and effect are interchangeable and can either be controlled or non-controlled. An example would be when bourgois talks about self-conscious reflexivity. It is organized by you to fit your needs: alienation- when you are socially isolated from society. You feel powerless and disconnected from the rest of the world. An example would be the cookie monster and elmo slide from the lecture and (aave) african-american vernacular english which is seen as incorrect use of language by others who don"t understand the language. Part 2: cultural relativism is an ethical theory. A person"s idea of morality comes from the culture they are raised in. Americans think that afghan women should comply with their moral norms. Respect for difference is not putting your morals in any way into a thought with another"s morals. Not asking how to make them better but accepting their views.
