Document Summary

Methodology; basic results for left vs. right brain specializations; interpreter. We miss a lot of the things around us and don"t even know it. Change blindness: failure to notice large changes in one"s environment (ex: magic tricks) Inattentional blindness: focus on a primary task causes you to miss other things you"re not looking for (ex: the gorilla illusion) States of consciousness after injury some deliberate movement/communication. Minimally conscious state: sleeping/waking/breathing unaided, aware of some environmental stimuli, movements. Persistent vegetative state: s/w cycle, but no awareness, reflexes and breathing intact, no deliberate. Brain death: no activity (most likely on life support) Locked-in syndrome: damage to the broca"s area (motor control) so can"t move/respond to others, but can hear ppl and feel things. Split brain: l hem associated w language and speaking, r hem assoc w spatial relationships. Sleep: period of diminished activity, which is reversible. Stage 2- theta waves + sleep spindle and k-complex.
