Document Summary

Operant conditioning: is learning through reinforcement and punishment. The key to operant conditioning is what happens after the stimulus. Learning/ associating: reinforcement increases behavior while punishment decreases behavior. The skinner box is also referred to as the operant chamber because he utilized operant conditioning with and rat and lever. The skinner box had a rat push on a lever to get food and would sometimes get shocked. The food was the reinforcer while the shock was the punisher. The cumulative recorder: the flat line means there is no response from the subject. The vertical line means there is a response (lever has been pulled) by the subject. The slash means that a reinforcement has taken place. Acquisition is the first part of learning, the ah ha! moment. It is used in both classical and operant conditioning. Shaping is gradually getting closer and close to the desired behavior.
