Used proceeds to buy land, slaves and machinery. Famous pirate henry morgan plowed profits back into island and became plantation owner. With arawak indians dying off, imported west and central african slaves to work. Jamaican resistance to exploitation and injustices began as slaves crossed from africa to caribbean. Mostly kept under deck, but when brought up, attacked crew or threw themselves off. Slaves so rebellious - put through seasoning process until they were ready to work in the field.
