What types of changes might we make: change #1: target the underlying problem, change #2: target the child"s behavior, change #3: target the environment. Purpose of intervention: change or eliminate the underlying problem, goal is for the child to be a normal language learner language impairment would be completely remediating and the child would need no intervention. This isn"t always realistic, though: language impairment will be completely remediated, child will need no further intervention. Sometimes this is possible: (exception: child with hearing impairment. May not know underlying problem: may not be able to change the problem, children with down syndrome. Hearing loss: hearing aid, cochlear implant (if we were trying to change the underlying problem). Give the child access to auditory input via a hearing aid or cochlear implant.
