Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Behaviour includes all of our outward or overt actions and reactions, such as talking, facial expressions, and movement. Mental process refers to all the internal, covert activity of our minds, such as thinking, feeling, and remembering. Requires scientific study because observation is needed in order to get an accurate study of behavior. The first goal is to describe the situation. Description involves observing behavior and everything about it, such as what is happening, where it happens, to whom it happens, and under what circumstances it seems to happen. The second goal is to find out why it"s happening by trying to understand what"s happening. A theory is a general explanation of a set of observations or facts by using the first 2 goals. Predicting what to do in order to change the behavior is the third goal.
