A lot of what we know is based on animal studies. Construct validity - make the animal model the way we think it appears in humans. Face validity - the extent to which it looks like the illness. If a medication has all three (construct, face, and prognostic validity), it"s homologous. If it just has face and prognostic = isomorphic. Drugs that treat schizophrenia all cause an animal behavior called catalepsy. Selective breeding of different generations of rats. Weavers and staggerers (mice that weaver and stagger and have cerebellum deficits). Knock ins - put in a gene. Also used in animals to make human proteins like gh. Knock outs - take out a gene. No oxytocin receptor no bond between mom and baby rat. Lectin receptor senses how much fat you have. Instead of looking at individual genes, look at endophenotypes (between genes).
