Meteor strike: shaped the chesapeake bay 35 million years ago . Sea level rise and fall: the changing sea level carved away the land. Ancient river valley: the susquehanna river valley was flooded when the glaciers began to melt and became known as the chesapeake bay. Geologically young only 3000 yrs: chesapeake bay assumed it current form only. Remnants of the susquehanna river valley still exist in the form of deep troughs which form a deep channel along the bay"s bottom. The hole - the site of the impact crater, off bloody point near annapolis. not sure if we need to know this or not. Many tributaries, long coastline: 50 major tributaries and streams. Well ventilated circulating water into and out of the bay is slower because of its funnel shape.
