Alaskan natives have the highest rate of botulism. Antibodies for botulism are not an effective method of treatment. Endospores of c botulinum have been recovered in honey. Bacterial encephalitis and meningitis are difficult to treat because many antibiotics cannot penetrate the bloodbrain barrier. The following microorganisms can directly cause meningitis: virus, bacteria, mosquitoes, fungi protozoa. The following diseases can be caused by prions: sheep scarpie, creutzfeldt-jakob disease, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, and kuru. Csf does not contain high levels of complement and circulating antibodies to prevent infection of the brain and spinal cord. Children younger than 1 year of age should not be fed honey because they may contract botulism.
