Document Summary

Wp #5: common sense on weapons of mass destruction (graham) Graham"s arguments in his fifth chapter center around arguing for a reduction in the political significance of nuclear weapons (60). This is a theme repeated throughout the reading, with strong supporting points located in chapter five. Graham specifically argues for the implementation of a no-first-use-policy (67) to further fortify relations in regards to nuclear nonproliferation. This is superbly presented and is very logical. Right now, other countries are so-called catching up to the united states with nuclear weapons. Essentially, there are smaller scale arms races occurring around the world. This does not bode well for anyone if unstable countries (e. g. north korea, who already is in the testing phase) are motivated to gain access to nuclear weapons. By reserving a right to essentially use our nuclear arsenal whenever needed, the us is flexing its nuclear muscles.
