Because the Gods are flawed; deeply uneven beings
The Greeks believed in flawed beings
o Which is a different perception of common gods today; who are normally
portrayed as perfect
The Professor may say things that she may or may not believe
o In class, the instructor should not be believed
Not everything he or she says reflects their belief system
o The professors job is to shock students out of a kind of sleep or sheltered
viewpoint that they have
Never respect a class that demands nothing from you
Discussion sections used to be optional
o There is typically information and ideas, engagements and backgrounds going on
but students would still skip
o so it was decided that students would be graded on attendance and participation
in discussion
Expectations
It would be very good for active participation to take place
o It is not graded, but questions will be asked
o As students are not there to just passively sit and listen
But to actively keep engaged or participate in the discussion
Honoring the class
o It is disrespectful to be doing something that Is not class-related
o Students are here to listen to the professor, and the professor is here to teach
the class
o In this honor system, you may have the computer out
But it is to be used to take notes, rather than browsing social media or
using the technology to do things not regarding the course
Exam knowledge is unknown
o Everything said can and might be testable
Take very very good notes
o Those who take very good notes are the students that pass the class
Patience
o The greatest virtue for this class will be patience
To resist the temptation to allow yourself to get distracted
This is not a difficult class
o But like every class, it has its tricks
You must be here for every single lecture
Should be motivated and eager to learn
o Not be on cellphone
o Not napping
o Not eating
