It could be said to be legal theory. How different scholars have conceptualized law; and cultural depictions of law. A particular conception or view of something to be done or of the methods of doing it; a system of rules or principles . A coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena . They both define theory as a collection of coherent ideas. The second one says it"s explanatory and several tested propositions; the first one says it"s a particular view (less empirical in nature; normative: what ideal laws should be and adhere to). The second one is more associated with social science: human behavior has to be tested and proved as valid via research and comparisons to empirical data.
