Week 2 studyguide: magic: magic dealt with superstitious ways of thinking. The association of objectivity and truth with the form of knowledge (science) was created from its differentiation from magic. Magic arose from science and vise versa. Enlightenment started to gage away from magic. Christian church played a role in demonizing magic and legitimizing science. Resulted in different ideologies, basis for discrimination, and power struggles. Deemed magic as being satanic and a sin. Encouraged the increase in science to stop magical and superstitious practices. Even forced conversion and change in behaviors. There were many women who contributed to science and technology: business, especially when they had minimal access to education, alchemy, astronomy, math, upper class women had the advantage. Females were cast to the side when it came to the emergence of science and technology. The advantages men had to education and jobs made them more prone to getting a scientific/math education.
