Late 20th century condition of economic, social, and political interdependence across cultures, societies, nations, and regions precipitated by an unprecedented expansion of capitalism on a global scale. The omission: the rise of western industrialized modernity and its precedents. Early 1800s, we were already trading internationally. After wwii, we had an incredible expansion of globalized trade. Example: dole corporation was based in the us but outsourced labor to the philippines, and the fruit products were distributed across the world. Because globalization caused resources to pool in certain areas, the labor opportunities caused migration for chicanx people and poor working conditions or wages: irca: Prohibited employers for the first time on a federal level from hiring undocumented workers. Irca had an amnesty provision which led to over 3 million people gaining permanent residence in the united states: nafta (north american free trade agreement) Lowered customs barriers that historically prevented large u. s. corn producers from dumping corn in mexico.
