Stereotypes reduce other to cardboard cut-out, ho humanity/agency; project fantasies/fears; impose norms; portray other as ideal/antithesis, never human. Nationalism: belief that cultural/ethnic boundaries should correspond to political boundaries. Ethnicity: subjectively and socially constructed, dynamic, relational, negotiable; agreed upon social practices, real/imagined sense of shared history/kinship; membership based on commitment.
