Document Summary

Explain how the structure of water molecules relates to water"s unusual properties and to its importance to life. Water is polar due to the fact that the oxygen molecule has a partial negative charge, the hydrogens have partial positive charge. Since the charges are at opposite ends of the molecule interactions it causes water to be polar. Unique features of water include its small size, bent v shape, its highly polar covalent bonds, and it is overly polar. Water"s charge determines its interactions with other molecules and atoms. For example, hydrophilic molecules will allow the ions and polar molecules to stay in the solution and interact w/ water. While hydrophobic molecules are uncharged and nonpolar compounds who will not dissolve in water. Explain why cells are limited in size. Cells are limited in size because diffusion becomes less efficient when the distance becomes greater. If the cell is big the distance becomes longer and diffusion is vital.
