Brief de nition: comparative politics is the study and comparison of domestic politics across countries. It doesn"t have to do with countries interacting with each other. Comparative politics looks at politics inside a country while international relations looks at politics between di erent countries. Inductive reasoning- study a case and generate a hypothesis (qualitative) Deductive reasoning- works from a hypothesis to test data (can lead to nding correlation or even a causal relationship) (quantitative) Comparative method: a way to compare cases and draw conclusions on the basis of these comparisons. Set of tools to make inferences about causality. 2 basic styles of inference: inductive and deductive. Inductive approach- explanation moves from speci c statements to general ones.
