In class: assigned online of a short summary, news article reading and discussion, exams. Week 1: one engaging in a systematic activity to acquire knowledge. Ideas, concepts, theories about nature: not facts and data, the best thing you can have is a theory. It is not essential that we perform experiments to develop these ideas, concepts, and theories: rational argument is just as powerful, research data can be important for deciding the validity of a theory, but it is not essential. It"s hard to find data that absolutely shows that a theory is wrong: this is important, scientist work with and produce concepts and theories, this is the basis of scientific knowledge. It"s to help the other people, not just your kid.
